I had been out of town during the earlier discussion and was unable to find the information about my solution. I used one of these:

It is mounted to a bracket on the center of the crossmember that supports the radiator with another bracket fiberglassed to the center of the bonnet. I used carbon fiber angle I bought cheaply online from a hobby shop for the brackets, it is easier to bond than alloy and just as strong. When I open the bonnet it falls over center and is stopped by a screw on the bracket, to close I just lift it up past the center and simply close the bonnet. I would post a picture if I knew how to do it on this forum. I will use the other one, they are sold as pairs, to hold the back shell.

I still have to pretty up the bracket on the crossmember by rounding off the corners and giving it a pleasing shape, but it works just fine.
