leak

Post by sgrant »

Mine, curiously enough, is from the front of the engine. I thought they were all supposed to leak from the rear?

I have a gentle oil weep from the cover behind the crank pulley - the cover that the front crankcase breather is attached to. It's no more than a few blobs on the garage floor and isn't enough to visibly change the oil level over any period of time. AFAIK it's always been there and it's not getting any worse. Should I bother about it? I guess that it's a mare to get to if I have to take the crank pulley wheel off, since that nut must be at about 200lb/ft of torque?

I shouldn't fret too much. Likely just the seal getting tired. There's no pressure in the timing case so it will only drip at worst. I did pull my pulley damper this weekend to fit a nice aftermarket one I bought on Ebay ages ago, and had to remove the starter to wedge the flywheel in order to remove the pulley nut. Plan it for your engine re-build.
