This climax pump engine with dynamo lug and A35 gearbox has been relisted for £450 as auction finishing around 1500hrs today.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can fit those liners easily to that block. If it were the FWB block casting (integral oil filter boss casting, lumps in the block to clear the longer throw crank), then its possible to fit them. But, it still requires a fair amount of money thrown at it. If you want to run anything above 6k rpm you need to find a steel crank, and fit the FWB or forged con rods, the head will require work to make decent power, the oil pump will need changing out for an FWA/B/E pump or fit the taller gears and fabricate a spacer (required for any street/race engine), the fibre timing gear for the jackshaft will need swapping for a steel one, source a suitable distributor, obtain an intake manifold and carbs, the list goes on and on.

I was under the same impression! but evidently 1500cc into a Flat sided pump is now possible and has been done.

You could always over bore for 3inch liners etc to get 1220cc.

apparently the forged conrods take up less space so clearing the block locally is ok to miss 1500cc crank throw even on Flat sided block.

Yes you need a ton of money for all the other bits I've been saving up for years

But, I hear what needs doing - sound like a VERY long list.

Still - with the weather the way it is, I'd be surprised if anyone wanted to conver their pumps. Better off hiring them out!

an alternative Climax engine already adapted to automotive use is the 875cc Hillman Imp engine. Has anybody ever explored that? It might lack BHP but it revs like crazy, so you would still get your max speed with correct gearing (and long enough straight)
