Which Weber manifold?

Post by sgrant »

Does anyone know of a Weber manifold that they *KNOW* will fit under the bonnet? :?:

The Maniflow one does, they do(did) a lowline one especially for the Midget not Mini. I have on on my car so I know it works!

A-ha; great. Thanks. So then;

1) Do you have a single 40 at the end of it? If so, did you have to grind anything off it, or does it fit under the bonnet without modifications?
2) Do a 40 and 45 have the same external dimensions? ie, is there any reason not to buy a 45?

I feel a Weber purchase coming on today :P I'm going to have to keep up with you lot somehow. I was quite happy with my stock 60bhp on SUs until this trip came along....

Sorry I didn't get back to you in time, but yes I have a 45, you will also need to get a throttle linkage sorted out, I can't remember off the top of my head where I got mine from but it is a nice cast aluminium one that sits on top of the carb body. I'll dig around and try to find out.

Before I got the Weber I was running twin SUs 1¼" but I did find a nice set of 1 3/4" brand new that I picked up for £20 or so! Unfortunately they wouldn't go undet the bonnet.

Alternatively there was always this!

Matt - looks like it's just hanging there to me! Do you plan on getting it fitted soon? Would put you top of the food chain!

Megajolt still working OK?

I was just seeing where it would fit. I could possibly shoehorn it in but it would be a tight fit unless I did something drastic like going blow through and mounting it where the alternator is. Trouble is I don't think that the car needs that extra torque so I am enjoying it as it is.

The Megajolt is working fine, the car needs to be set up on a rolling road to fine tune the Weber and ignition as at the moment I have a large flat spot on pulling away which makes junctions very interesting.

Hi Matt. Maniflow tell me that they make the flat manifold in a variety of lengths. Is there any chance of you measuring yours for me? I can see i've got somewhere between 9 and 12 inches of clearance between the block and the chassis rail, but of course it's all so dependant on exactly where the carbs sit. If I can just tell them to make my manifold to the same length as the one you have it might increase the chances of this all fitting for me.....

Ta very much,

Stephen,

Just been to measure the manifold and it is shorter than I thought, face to face is 3½". The Weber trumpets sit over the chassis rail so clearance is less of an issue, see photos. The most important thing I think is the height, not going over the level of the rocker cover T handles. Maniflow should be familiar enough with the A series to come up with something to suit. (I sourced mine via Ebay second hand).

Thanks Matthew - that is really appreciated. I'll have a chat to them in the morning. Sounds like I can go a little longer than you have, although I guess at some point the bonnet starts to drop and reduce clearance height.

Many thanks again
