I have about 4 years to build her first car. Is anyone interested in a 1/3rd scale Lotus 11 body? I was thinking about having the W11 scanned and a mold cut for a fiberglass body. Thinking tube frame, electric.
Meanwhile, I am acquiring drawings for the (baby) Bugatti Type 52. I think that we can build a perfect replica here. The hard part will be the wheels, but I think I have a solution. Monterey 2019 debut?
A Lotus and a Bugatti is a good start for a small collection.
"Small" TIG because you want the baby to use it? I'd give her a couple of years Jan before you let her loose with a welder! Maybe start with a soft hammer? Congratulations and lots of luck. You'll need it!
My parents bought me a small tool box when I was 5. I promptly loosened all the door knobs, and everything else that my screwdriver fit.
I wont talk about the saw.. EVER.
I really didn't own any hammers other than the Thor, replaced by a lead mallet, for my Healey and Ferrari (yes, a 250 GT P2, kept for an early 70s summer and sold, recently restored and sold for about $3M) knock offs... Soft hammers came only about three decades ago, as did tools with teeth. For some reason, I was not into hammers. Not that much into saws, either. But I do have a lovely, heavy, large chop saw that comes in handy. Hammers are still lead, dead blow and soft. The Thor is still around. Still looks pretty new.
I suspect that she will be welding... I am thinking about teaching her about SU carburetors first, maybe valve adjustments (there are no ignition points around here to adjust), after she masters shifting the manual transmissions. Oh, and I have to teach her to fly, too.
I need the welder for the Type 42, and I want to weld the shear plates to my early W11's rear suspension arm mounts...
