Re: My 11 build

Hello again, I'm back on production after an unexpected family bereavement. I'm glad to have the kit in the garage to give me something to concentrate on....

The wiring has been a challenge but just about completed, just need to tidy it up before I post any images.

The rocker cover is no longer orange, its a rather nice silver.

Well the engine is in but the fit leaves a lot to be desired. There are a couple of very close points. The engine will need to come out again to make the changes..

What’s the donor vehicle? That head looks slightly unusual.

The fit IS tight! The dizzy is the real pinch point. I actually cant the engine ever so slightly before I tighten up the mounting bolts. Shoving the head towards the near-side as you nip them up results in another couple of mil clearance for the rotor cap (or at least, is does on mine......). That said, the dizzy cap can be unclipped and extracted without any difficulty, despite the seemingly impossible clearances.

Looking good, BTW!

Hello Splat, The motor is a A-series I sourced from the State. 1330cc, forged rods, aluminium flywheel, fast road cam complete with aluminium cylinder head.

Ah, it’s an ally head! I did wonder, but it wasn’t too clear on an iPad. A useful weight loss from about the highest point in the car.

It does appear to be a tight fit, but you can get the distributor cap off without too much trouble. I may have used a side exit Pertronix cap on my last build.

You will have another clearance problem with your valve cover. You may have to heat up the base of the oil filler to remove it from the cover (its brazed in place), then shorten it about half an inch. This will ensure that the cap won't go through the bonnet.

Your engine should have an extra breather hole drilled through the fuel pump boss, unless it already has a bolt on cover. In that case, you will need a hole in the cover. This, and the front cover breather, along with one installed in the valve cover (with a welded in baffle) should keep the oil inside the engine at high revs.

The alloy head has ports of large size, similar to those of the Longman head. There are some tuners that will tell you that they are too large, but I don't believe it. See, they get alloy head money to port steel heads...

Sounds pretty good.

I bet you have noticed that even small, simple cars have a LOT of parts...

Well the engine and box are back out of the car. I've taken some metal off the side of the plate which goes between the engine and gearbox, also taken a piece out of the bell housing where the starter bendix goes through. Photos are worth a thousand words.....

I think the factory need to move the engine mount forward 2" and the problems go away.

Anyway the engine is back in and has the necessary clearance.
