What do we reckon to this one?

Fibreglass front end? Lot of money for a car with no original chassis number methinks…..

I tend to agree. It’s a classic (heh) example of an original car spawning two after a crash. Which is the original? Which has the continuous history?

Probably a nice thing in itself, and at least some of the chassis came from London. Glass fibre panels reduce the value. A new body is around £50k, when I asked Geoff Moss. Vic knows his stuff, of course, and so does Graham Caple, but £100k? Nope, far too rich for today’s market.

Chance to get a cheap "original". The auction market is so soft at the moment, I've heard Bonhams aren't doing FOS this year.

It is a reconstructed classic, technically. Nothing wrong with that, but the car with the continuous history is in Japan (according to the blurb). The rest of the photos with the registration docs make interesting reading. It’s a nice car, and I’d love to have it - but not at that money! :D

So, any wagers for final bid amount? I'm going for unsold at 42,000…!

I think you’d be on the money there. I’ll go low at £35K.

Finished at £50k. Reserve not met. Still demand for reconstructed classics, then.

IIRC, genuine, documented XIs go for £120k or so, so I am at a loss as to how they think this one is worth 80-90, with no original chassis number and a set of fibreglass front and rear clams! A 1500cc climax and rear de dion is nice, but not that nice!

Agreed,Tim. The HLR are aware of this particular car, of course, as the Registrar signed off on it as a Reconstructed Classic. It’s a lovely thing, and very well executed, but a stretch to describe it a one of the first 50 S1s.
