ref getting the foam out, if it's the aerosol applied expanding stuff then, in the UK at least, you can buy 'foam eater' which will dissolve it. Maybe you could use a similar product?

I had thought of that. It's acetone, which dissolves the foam on contact. It also dissolves the paint (and anything else that isn't metal) on the frame as well.
The foam was bagged, and I am hoping that I can pull it out once the side panels are removed from the frame.
