Inforad are currently selling their motorbike accident blackspot warning system on ebay for £20. I've found the normal ones are fairly useless in noisy sports cars without windscreens as you can't hear any audible warnings and although you might be able to see the lights, putting the box somewhere in eyeline where it can get a good GPS lock generally means trying to put it on the scuttle, which then means taking it on and off if you park the car anywhere but at home, or if its raining.

So I thought I'd try the motorbike one, most of which could be put behind the dash, with just the GPS antenna and single warning light on a gooseneck left to poke up somewhere. No idea how well it will work but I'll try and get it installed over the weekend and see. Its all fairly rugged and looks like it could take a soaking, but slightly larger than I thought it would be from the pictures - about two packs of cards in size.

How about a wide angle convex spot mirror to replace the glass in the standard race mirrors? Properly positioned and adjusted (the mirror mounts work well), there is no blind spot. You can see the car next to you in your peripheral vision, and in the mirror.

Probably cost less than £10

Blackspot, not blindspot.

In many territories (France for example) speed camera detectors (RF, laser or GPS) are illegal. Warning drivers of "accident blackspots" is not....

And those things actually work??? Sounds like a scam...

Never mind...

But I have found that the W11 doesn't always turn up on radar, as it is often lost in the ground clutter (too low, too small) or it's hiding behind the shadow of another vehicle.

I was once stopped because the officer didn't get a radar return... Wanted to know if I was jamming...

They do work, they are just a GPS location device to warn you that you are in the area of an accident blackspot camera, and some can warn you if over the speed limit if you like...

On a day to day basis I don't particularly need one, I'm not inclined to zoom around and then stand on my brakes just as I reach a camera and then zoom off again.

Where I do find them useful is when I find myself in an unknown location, especially if I'm in or about a known blackspot. Then the extra warning it gives is most useful.
