Luggage Solutions - Le Mans Classic 2014

Post by Markwoodbridge »

I'm off to Le Mans Classic is a couple of weeks and have just realised that I have inadequate boot space..

Has anyone devised any temporary ways of securely carrying luggage under the rear clam shell? I'm thinking of a kind of open wooden box with the clam shell acting as the lid.

Photos, suggestions, plans all welcome.

Are any other XI's going to the Classic this year? I'm going through the Triumph Sports Six Club, they had an excellent set up in 2012.

Last LM trip in the Eleven, we put a large holdall under the rear clam.
One of these types: http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/travel/bags ... e/holdalls
Probably just bunged to something convenient - I can't remember exactly what.

Splat has a custom fit box for the rear clam. I have used a large plastic storage bin with a click-lid. A couple of bolts/wing-nuts and four penny washers to secure. WOrked well enough.

Enjoy the CLM! My engine is still in a million bits and my bank account is commensurately empty (even though I actually have the time off for the event! Hopefully be spending that reinstalling my rebuilt lump).

Yup, I've got a custom-built sheet-ally bin. It's held to the rear floor via a bolt and rivnut in each corner. It's a neat solution to the storage problem. All you would need to replicate it is a paper template of the side wall and the measurement of the total width. Unhelpfully, my car is festering down the road at Slark's, where Neil is snowed under with work. I'll add a picture of the box when I can and will be only too pleased to post out templates to anyone who wants one. But not in time for ClM :(

the luggage coffin I made for my le mans trip.
Going this year with my son, no idea what we
are getting in to....
A large luggage bag fits in there under the rear hood.
If we go racing i can take two helmets and the rest of my stuff in there.

Any suggestions for the le mans trip, as where to park, stay, sleep....

regards Cor

Thanks to you all for recommendations.

Re Le Mans, I'd suggest you contact the Triumph Sports Six club to see if they have any camping places left. http://www.tssc.org.uk/tssc/index.asp

They have a great plot up in the North East corner of the track
