When things go wrong they certain cause the maximum amount of grief!
The engine has just been refitted after coming out to fit new ring gear after the starter motor stripped it.
Having covered no more than 150 miles the gearbox has cried enough with metal in the oil.
So its engine out again.
Just to make it worse its not a job I can do so its back to the local garage.
If you happen to have an unused gearbox in good condition that you are considering selling please let me know.
Alternatively you may know of a good supply source.
This would avoid the car becoming a "barnfind" in the year 2030!

Is it just metal in the oil, or is it making horrible noises?

First gear working? Grinding or ticking? Bearing noises? Difficulty in finding gears?

Or, metal chunks in the oil? Just metal in the oil is sort of normal for a gear box when you are doing an oil change. Filings usually OK, but gear teeth... Not so much.

It is not that hard to rebuild a rib case gearbox.

I have a good rib case gearbox with recent mainshaft and layshaft bearings
( Probably no more than 4 thousand miles on the bearings ) price £190 .00 ,
Also a good propshaft to suit midget box to midget axle , price £60.00 . These
are available due upgrade to Ford Type 9 five speed gearbox , not because
of any mechanical problems , some other bits and pieces as well . If interested

Regards your comment about the starter motor " Stripping " the ring gear , fit a pre-engage starter .
I have a previous thread on this topic and can whole heartedly reccomend them, it took 45 minutes to fit ,
no wiring issues and it " Sounds right " when you go to start the engine .

Gentlemen, for your interest :-
The gearbox was picked up at 3pm Thursday and delivered to Chris
by 3pm the day after, a distance of 274 miles.The package weighed
26 kg and was 700 X 400 X 350 mm,all this for £16.50 including VAT.
Courier was UPS booked with Vans2Go.It could have been £12.95
with Yodel but they don't do gearboxes.
Excellent service ! !

Thats a pretty good service, but nonsense about yodel not doing gearboxes, they shifted an anglia box that id bought on ebay for the selector forks for my seven about 6 months ago for about 12 quid! Then again i didnt state what i was transporting..... I dont know how they continue in business their margins must be tiny.

Hey Ben, I bought a complete '59 Anglia. I want to scratch-build my car on the Sports theme and add an S1 front, and a Ford side valve, 3-speed gear box and Nash type rear. Drums all round. And 15" wire wheels. Maybe I should start a new tread.

when booking online their prohibited list shows gearboxes , for the extra cost of
£3.55 I decided to play safe and go UPS , declaring it was a gearbox.

style copy,best of luck with it.

For your interest I purchased yesterday,Thursday 18 June,a 1939 Rover 10/12 saloon.
This being a 5 seat saloon so the family can come along as well.See item C627649 on
www.carandclassic.co.uk,it was located in Burnley which is only 10 miles away.The
photographs on the website do not do it justice,it is in stunning restored condition with
all the work done some 11 years ago and still pristine.
