Hi Tim

I originally planned to silicone the pods on but it was nigh on impossible to get them to fit as I would need them to for the silicone to work. Basically where the pods mount over the headlights it just about fits but this meant that the bit that sits on the top of the bonnet was miles out. In the end I decided the best way was to drill it and then have it painted afterwards, I wanted to get it painted but I was being tight and am using this as an excuse to get it done!!!

All the wiring is now done and working so it's a bit of IVA rubber covering and bolt on the mirrors and away we go, will update once the IVA is booked in as will need everyone to cross everything for me.

Cheers Si

Besides enjoying our new baby (now 7 months), I have been out of action for a few months for some surgery to correct a problem that was keeping me from enjoying the 11. Last weekend, I put a couple of hundred enjoyable miles on it, which was nice after it was not really used much for the time I was building/testing the RHD car.

Now, I am devoting time to the Renault R5Turbo T300 so that I can get it out of the garage and concentrate on my own projects. The thing is 5 years or so late...

I just ordered a set of bushings for the 11 from another source. These are poly. If they work, I will let you know.

Otherwise, my early LHD car is doing fine. The engine is still sharp, the clutch and brakes are solid, and the Datsun 5 speed shifts as fast as ever.

I plan to try some 15" magnesium Panasport wheels in 5.5" front and 6" rear, using the vintage race Dunlops. This instead of the wire wheels that I usually use. Something different, and perhaps a bit lighter.

Bucket seats go in this week (getting them off the living room floor). I stripped out the interior using paint stripper to remove the old carpet adhesive. Worked great, leaving a shiny alloy surface that I rubbed with steel wool. Next, I have to pull the carpet from the polyester rear bulkhead and replace it, along with the red cover on the instrument panel. I have a new panel that I am working on, with a more traditional layout. THEN... maybe I can refurbish and paint the bodywork.

I also discovered that a right angle speedo drive might not be necessary with the Datsun B210 5 speed. More on this when I hook up the new speedo cable and speedo.

I'm guessing that it's the Powerflex set that WSC have been touting on their website for a couple of months now? Whilst it's offered as a generic set for their cars, it's not listed in the XI section of their online shop. There, they're still only offering the metalastic bushing.

Powerflex have the bushings on their own website (although I think that a set of sixteen from them is more than from WSC) and also provide a dimensioned drawing. I've yet to get around to measuring a metalastic unit for comparison with the Powerflex specs. I'm guessing that you've done that and they fit? I did note that the Powerflex specs give the inner bore in mm whilst we all use fractional set-screws here. Is the Powerflex bore compatible, or do you intend to use metric screws? I only replaced mine last winter and have only covered about 300 miles since! so it'll be a while before I need to replace them again....

Hi All,
Since collecting my kit a few months ago I have bee concentrating on the build but I keep watch on the board.
I attach a photo taken a couple of weeks ago which I hope will show I have been making progress.
Had real problems with pattern part front wheel bearings not seating to stub axle root radius thus the brake pads would not enter the calipers. Just received a set of front, face adjusted bearings from a new supplier for £75 for complete set and they fit as they should.
Si, nice to see your progress, any chance of seeing you passenger solution to the head rest problem as I have just finished my wiring and am starting to think about this problem.
All the best

I'm still alive, but XI progress is slow.

I'd better pull my finger out! House is on the market, 787 cse in July(ish), and a whole pile of stuff to get through before.

On the upside of my downside, my girlie likes cars, is a big fan of the XI, and she's itching to drive the thing round the Cotswolds! :D

Powerflex US says that the bushings are offered through Westfield Only, and not sold through their US operation. They have no information about their specifications.

I have not tried them.

Who do you deal with for parts at Westfield now? I was working with Gavin Prosser, but it seems that he is no longer available...

Clicking on the link marked "fitting instructions" opens a document giving the detailed specification.

Finished the "cold" side of the engine bay today. HIF44 to rebuild, a trip to Maniflow to swap my inlet to one that will fit, and exhaust back box to repack after the dents were repaired (Combe speed-bump!! Pah!).

Might get it on the road for the Summer! Only been a year... :( :D

Hi Daggers

Your cracking on there it looks great!!!! At this rate you'll be on the road before me.

Ian who completed a car a year or so ago has given me a head rest which attaches to the rear clam which worked for him, I was thinking of borrowing the high back seats from my dads Westfield Seven to save drilling unnecessary holes in the bodywork but as I'm now going to paint it the easiest solution was the headrest. Assuming it works for me you are welcome to use it to save having to build your own, I'm sure Ian would be chuffed to know his handy work is getting us all through IVA. I will take a picture of it later on the car and post it but in the meantime here is a picture of it on Ian's car.

Cheers Si
